Funeral Card Friday - Maria Beisbier

I just love the German funeral cards I have!  I particularly love it when funeral cards (of any language) when they have pictures on them.  I do get a giggle out of the stern look on her face.  It's commonplace to smile when getting your picture taken today, but apparently not always!  Or perhaps she wasn't very happy in general, although I'd hate to think that.

  1. I always wondered about the not smiling thing myself. I think it has to do with photography back then...didn't it take a long time to get a picture? Maybe they got tired of smiling and got grumpy!!! Hmm...

  2. Yeah, they did have to stay still for awhile, but I can't remember when that all changed. Her look is quite surly though :) Mine probably would be too

  3. I know I already said it once, but I'll say it again. I'm so jealous of your collection!! They are all absolutely beautiful. You're right, she does look pretty "surly". I have some women like that in my family too. :)

  4. It was almost a straight out frown! Hey you've got an awesome collection of pictures and great stories!

Wait until Tuesday...I'm excited about my post. Came up with my own theme and am happy with it so far.

  5. This might actually be my great great great grandmother. I tried zooming in and reading what looks like some English under her picture. If it says Lomira and St. Kilian, there's a good chance she's relation. It'd be great if you could send me just a copy of this actual picture. Awesome pic and share.

    1. Scott,

It isn't English under her picture, but the Wisconsin cities do appear that way because they don't translate. It does say Town of Lomira and St. Kilian. I couldn't find your email when I clicked on your name, but I'd be happy to send you a copy of the card. Part of my husband's family is from St. Kilian and one of his aunt's married a Beisbier. Email me at HaveYouSeenMyRoots@gmail.com for the photo!
